Petting a Cheetah in South Africa

With a lemur in Madagascar
I had only been back from my first African adventure a matter of weeks when I came to the conclusion I had not had enough of Africa and was going to "move" there. After eight frantic and emotional weeks of attempting to get all of my affairs in order for the move; selling my possessions including two houses and a car; dealing with bills and getting my dogs a temporary loving home; packing and flying to the other side of the world; there I was breathless. The memory of that first day back is as clear as bottled water. I sat on a steep cliff facing the Indian Ocean on Roberg Island and inhaled a big breath of Africa then exhaled all of my stress and worries. Peace was injected into my veins like a life saving intravenous drip. That is the feeling I seek every time I go back to Africa.

I have now traveled all of southern and eastern Africa including the countries of South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya and Madagascar. For each journey I have left the States alone and traveled either by my self entirely, alone with a personal guide, or a few times on group tours. Each expedition has been a unique and enlightening experience. I am a better person every time I return from Africa.
